[Review] x [Hair Product] Red House Private Reserve Firm Hold Pomade

The following review will be on Red House Private Reserve Firm Pomade.

Packaging
The jar is made of glass that is tinted brown, accompanied by a metal lid that is somewhat golden in colour. This colour scheme alone already gives off a vintage vibe that you would otherwise see in a barbershop. It also comes with a "Red House" tag on the jar itself which again the font emphasises my feeling of a barbershop feels. I feel that this packaging is nice in the sense that it strikes a fine balance between simplicity as well as complexity. Simplicity in the sense that it has a very old-school barbershop color scheme of dark brown and golden but at the same time the artsy and fancy design on the jar takes away the otherwise boring taste to the entirety of it.

Scent
The scent, on my first sniff, is quite displeasing. It can be quite a heavy smell that has a tinge of cinnamon to it. However as I used it for days, I have gotten used to the smell and in fact I would say that I have grown to like this smell, as long as it's in fine amounts and not too much of it as it will become very strong of a smell. Scent wise I would say that it is really an acquired taste.

Product
Product in the jar is white in colour. However, since the jar is tinted brown in colour, the product might seem light it is slightly brownish in the picture. Scooping it out of the jar I found that it is really hard and stiff. It is really difficult to stick my finger into the product and dig/scoop it out. Initial impression of this wasn't really good since I thought that it would also be difficult to apply it into my hair. Rubbing it into my hands, it wasn't as difficult as when I scooped it out of the jar. With a little heat generated from rubbing my palms together, the product quickly became very easy to spread through my palms and I was quite surprised by this considering how difficult it was to scoop out of the jar.

Application
Upon applying it into my hair, I could feel that it was easy to work this product into my hair. Application was smooth and it would spread rather easily. However, I felt that this product did not have as much hold as I would usually have with my other products considering that I had put the same amount into my hair, and hence, because of that I had to put more of this product to achieve the same results as I do with other products.

Styling
Styling with this product was very good. Even though I had put quite a lot of this product into my hair in order to achieve the same results as I do with my usual heavy hold pomades, this product did not clump my hair at all. In fact, my hair still remained very light and easy to work through with my comb. Styling with my comb was a breeze. Also, restyling is very possible with this product. Throughout the day when I felt that my hair needed a touch up, all I needed was to bring a comb to the mirror and work the magic once more, and my hair would stay in shape for hours again.

Texture
This product gives off a tinge of shine that is not too shiny as most people dislike. Personally, I dislike products that are too shiny because it just does not go well with my daily casual outfits since shiny hair tend to be more compatible with sleek outfits. Red House Private Reserve gives exactly what I want. Matte shine is a tad too boring for me since I have been using products that give off matte shine for quite a while now, and I wanted something different just for a change. This product gives off a little shine that isn't overly glaring, but yet at the same time a little shine that tells people that hey, there is product in your hair today. In addition, I like how this product does not dry up and clump up your hair. Unlike most heavy and fim hold, your hair still remins lightweight and looks moisturized and not dry and clumpy.

Hold
I had qualms as to how long my hair could survive in the ever-challenging Singapore weather since my hair felt so lightweight after applying somewhat lots of this product. True enough, few strands of my hair fell just the moment I reached my office early in the morning. I had to put more product and touch up once again before I started my day of work. With that being said, it is by no means inferring that this product has lousy hold. First off, I would like to explain that in the Singapore weather, even a heavy hold product can not outlast the humidity and heat of this climate, much less a product with firm hold. In addition, I have to admit that I did put too little of this product, since it was my first time using a firm hold, and I only used the same amount as I do for a heavy hold, which is considered very little for a firm hold. To put it simply, this product has a decently strong hold, just that it simply isn't enough to last through Singapore weather, as no other products can ever survive.

Conclusion
I would use this product quite regularly but definitely not every single day. First off would be because the smell isn't something I would like to smell every day just probably once in a few days. Also, the shine isn't something I would like to see or show off every single day, just once in awhile. It gives a very nice texture to the hair and it also doesn't clump your hair up. The most important thing to me would be that it makes my hair very light weight that I can simply brush my hair up and it would stay in place for hours unless touched. But with that also comes a downside that it would not last for very long in Singapore weather since the sun would instantly melt it away. More of this product would have to be applied every now and then but if you're a person who doesn't mind the extra effort touching up every few hours, then I would say this product will definitely be worth considering.
