[Review] Nostalgic Clay (Teakwood Citrus) by Dion

The following review will be on Nostalgic Clay Teakwood Citrus.

Packaging
The container is made of a fairly thick plastic, which I personally prefer since I can carry it around without having to worry about it breaking. and is tinted blue as shown in the picture above. Together, it comes with a black plastic lid, both of which feels sturdy enough to withstand collision when brought out and around. Both the lid and the container has a sticker attached to it and I personally like it as it reminds me of a very Super Mario kind of theme.

Cost
Approx. 20SGD

Scent
I will say that the scent is an acquired taste. It is labelled as a teakwood citrus scent and for sure I can smell both of them in the product. The citrus scent is definitely more noticeable but not to the extent that it overwhelms the teakwood smell. I think that it is a very nice combination of smells as the opening smell is very much of the citrus, but the teakwood smell lingers after the citrus fades away. Lovely combination.

Product / Consistency
The product appears very similar to hardened clay; It is fairly difficult to scoop the product out of the container which I personally like since it allows you to control how much you want to scoop out onto your hands. Emulsifying it may be more difficult that pasty products but certainly can be evenly spread onto your palms with no residue.

Application
Working this product into the hair may cause you a little tugging since this product is quite hard. However that is only at the initial stage. Once you have worked some product into your hair, application is easy and smooth.

Styling
It is very easy to style with this product. Once you have worked a little of the product into your hair, styling your hair into your desired shape is a simple task. This product is relatively light-weight, meaning that it will not weigh your hair down throughout the day, keeping your hair full of volume.

Texture
I am totally in love with the finished texture that this product gives me. It leaves your hair looking slightly matte, but not all too matte such that the whole world knows that you have used some sort of clay in your hair. At the same time, it does not shine, giving you the "natural" look, if that is what you desire.

Hold
The hold is certainly not the strongest but that is undoubted given that this product is a clay. On the container it is labelled as "firm hold", but I am pleasantly surprised as to how much hold this product gives for a clay. Perhaps my expectations of clay were not that high to begin with, but it surprisingly lasted throughout the night that I used for the test. Though I did not go under the sun and for the most part was under the A/C, my hair was fairly short at the time of the test and to be able to hold up the entire duration was really an achievement unlocked to me. Below are some before and after photos of the test, just see how well this product held up.

Restyling / Endurance
This product is very versatile in terms of restyling. Just go to the mirror, take out a comb or just using your fingers, work it through your hair, and your hair will be able to stay in shape once again. One thing to take note though, use less water to restyle your hair when using this product because it comes off easily. Using this product in A/C places would be very ideal because after all, this is a clay and it will not last in the sun (I mean, which hair product will last under the scorching Singapore sun??).

Washability
Washing off this product is a breeze and I mean it. Personally, I do not like products that wash off too easily (hence I use Blackship, do check out my review on it coming up soon!) because when restyling your hair, you want to use a little water to "re-activate" the product on your hair. By using a product that washes off too easily, you are stripping the product off of your hair rather than re-activating it. Again, it is a matter of preference and for this product, just a simple rinse can get rid of almost 60% of this product and with shampoo, almost completely gone.

Conclusion
I highly recommend this product as an everyday use because clay is so versatile and at the same time, this clay gives off the best texture if you are looking for the best "natural" look. However, downsides are that the smell can be annoying to some, but to me and to those who can appreciate it, it can even double up as a personal fragrance. Product will eventually die off if you are constantly under the sun so do take note of that even though you can restyle by adding a little water. If you are the kind that do not like products that washes off easily (like me), you might want to re-consider getting this product, though I get around this downside by applying more when restyling. Overall, a 8/10 clay.
